WATCH: iOS 8.0 loophole allows Nintendo games on Apple devices
A loophole on iOS 8.0 allows users of Apple devices to run Nintendo games.
According to a post by Wang Wei on the Hacker News, the "Date Trick" technique allows users to install classic SNES emulators without having to jailbreak their phones.
"Technically, by changing the device's date and time back at least two months on an iPad or iPhone, it is possible to bypass the restrictions on unsigned apps, which allows Apple iOS users to easily run emulators without jailbreaking their devices," wrote Wang.
Apple does not allow emulators on the App Store for copyright reasons. But with the loophole found by Dario Sepulveda of GBA4iOS team, iOS users can download and install unapproved apps through the built-in Safari browser.
An upcoming upgrade of iOS 8, however, will close the loophole. "So, if you love playing games without jailbreaking your iDevices, you should hold off on updating to iOS 8.1," added Wang. — Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
