WATCH: Need to solve a math problem? Just take a picture

Who would have thought math homework could be solved with a smartphone camera?

This free photo-based math solving mobile app, dubbed PhotoMath, could be just what the selfie generation needs.

PhotoMath is initially available for Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone. A version for Android is due in 2015.

In the description for the iOS version of the app, PhotoMath claims to be the world's first camera calculator, where a user can just point the camera toward the mathematical expression.

But the Windows Phone version's description indicates the app will not support handwritten numbers for now.

Sploid.com described the app as "a cross between a text reading camera, a supremely sophisticated calculator and well, the future."

Not only that - the app will show users how the answer was reached.

"So if you still want to learn math, the app can serve as an immensely helpful teaching tool for arithmetic expressions, fractions and decimals, powers and roots and simple linear equations. The app developers say more is coming too," it said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
