WATCH: ‘StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void’ teaser trailer wraps up epic saga
By MATTHEW ARCILLA

At BlizzCon this weekend, new details were revealed for the third chapter of the StarCraft II trilogy, 'Legacy of the Void', as well as a trailer that sets up the long-awaited conclusion to the saga.
The most surprising revelation was that 'Legacy of the Void' will be stand-alone product. True, knowledge of the events of the previous two games, 'Wings of Liberty' and 'Heart of the Swarm' are necessary to fully comprehend the back story of 'Legacy of the Void's' campaign. But those who want to play it don't need to actually own the original 'StarCraft II' or its Zerg-focused expansion.
There will be a handful of units added to 'StarCraft II' by 'Legacy of the Void.' Some return from the original 'StarCraft' and its expansion, 'Brood War'. Others are entirely new additions.
Lurkers, who made their infamous debut in 'Brood War' provide a defensive option for Zerg players: they burrow underground and ambush any enemies that approach. The Ravager can use its corrosive bile to penetrate defenses. The Battlecruiser can now be upgrade by their Terran commanders to teleport anywhere on the battlefield. The new Cyclone can eliminate priority targets with their fast speed and decent range. The Disruptor provides Protoss leaders a unit that moves slowly, has no attack but can deal massive area of effect damage on the ground. Warp Prisms have been upgraded so that they don't just send units, they can rescue them from danger.
'Legacy of the Void' will also introduce two new multiplayer modes, both providing co-op opportunities for the venerable real-time strategy genre.
In Archon Mode, two players share control of a single base and army in multiplayer for cooperative strategies. The name alludes to the Protoss assault warrior of the same name, created from fusing two high templars with one another. In Allied Commanders, players assume the role of commanders, tackling scenarios and leveling up their heroes. Also, an automated tournament system will aid players who like to organize their own multiplayer events.
'Legacy of the Void' is coming to PC with a to be announced release date, or as companies like Blizzard like to say, "When it's done." — TJD, GMA News
