A Philippine-made solution to heavy traffic may be unfolding soon at a street near you.

Engineering students from the De La Salle University are to unveil a "world-class foldable bicycle" at the first Philippine Bike Expo this weekend.

Slated to lead the launch of the project dubbed NYFTI are faculty member Engr. Isidro Marfori III and former co-faculty Engr. Carl Mamawal.

The expo will be on Nov. 15 and 16 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

NYFTI was a winner of the second IdeaSpace Startup Competition supported by IdeaSpace Foundation Inc.

Its team has engineers, designers and fabricators who are "very passionate about transportation design."

Those who attend the expo may have the first shot at acquiring the foldable bikes via pre-selling.

Geometry bicycle

The bike is a full-size geometry bicycle with the smallest fold volume - and a patent-pending three-fold design that lets the bike transform into three convenient modes: fold, park and cart.

Yet, it is tough, being built from chromoly alloy steel.

Other features of the bike include eight-speed gears, reliable brakes, and 16-inch wheels for a safe and nimble ride experience. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
