Welcome to Windows 93

What if Windows 95, Microsoft's first 32-bit consumer operating system that made PCs more similar to Apple Macs, came out two years earlier?

Blog site Kottke.org imagines Windows 93 as a cross of sorts between Windows 95 and its immediate predecessor Windows 3.1.

The result is an interactive site showing what Windows 93 could have been—including the seemingly innocent computer viruses then—at www.windows93.net.

"Ok, fine, it's a fictional Windows-like interface built in CSS and JavaScript," Kottke admitted.

A separate article on tech site The Verge described Windows 93 as a "twisted parallel version of Windows 95 that's seen our future and now hates it — and us."

"Some of what you'll click is fun, like the fully functional Cat Explorer. Others, like Poney Jockey, claim to open the gates of hell. Which mostly seems like an idle threat, but you never know," it cautioned. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
