‘Frozen’ gets LEGO treatment, but not quite in time for Xmas

Children (and grownups) who still can't get enough of Disney's "Frozen" more than a year after it hit theaters can now re-live scenes from their favorite film – via LEGO.

The maker of the popular toy bricks created a Frozen-themed set dubbed "Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle," including Olaf the snowman, tech site Mashable reported.

But Mashable said the set is available for now only in Northern Europe, and may not be available in the United States and elsewhere until after the holidays.

Still, it cited reports the set could be available in some areas in the US including some Target stores.

A separate article on Bloomberg quoted LEGO brand manager Vicki Stoltz as saying the company is adding the "Frozen" product to its Disney Princess line in the Nordic and Baltic regions and select northern European markets between Dec. 13 and 19.

It said the playset has 292 bricks and features characters Elsa, Anna and Olaf the snowman.

However, the product is not due to hit the US until January.

“It would have been better if they had it for Christmas for all countries, because Christmas is a crucial period for toys and games,” Bloomberg quoted Utku Tansel, head of toys and games at researcher Euromonitor International, as saying.

LEGO Chief Executive Officer Jorgen Vig Knudstorp said they do not consider "Frozen" that important.

“It is definitely across all categories a very strong property, a wonderful movie, but for us, it’s a minor thing,” he said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
