After a long time in production, Marvel has finally released the first full-length teaser trailer of “Ant-Man” —the company's next solo superhero movie property, following right on the heels of their most anticipated superhero team sequel with “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
Airing with the premiere of the brand new Marvel TV series “Agent Carter,” here is Marvel’s size-changing superhero, yet another creation from the fertile minds of Stan Lee and the late great Jack Kirby.
Described as a “Heist Movie” more than anything else, “Ant-Man” tells the story of Scott Lang, a thief seeking redemption and a chance to become a hero in his daughter’s eyes.
Scott gets that chance of his life when brilliant entomologist and scientist Dr. Hank Pym gives him the opportunity to don a suit he created that allows its wearer to shrink and talk to ants. As “Ant-Man,” Scott is entrusted with safeguarding the technology and becoming a true superhero, as evil forces seek to steal Pym’s technology and use it for their own sinister intentions.
Once helmed by Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs The World director Edgar Wright, Ant-Man went through years of production to get underway and become part of Marvel Studios continuously evolving slate of films under their growing and cohesive Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wright started a treatment together with his writing partner Joe Cornish, and development began as soon as Wright got hired to direct Ant-Man in 2006. After showing off some test footage during the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, the project received more traction and eventually casting was underway. Eventually, actor Paul Rudd was cast as Scott Lang, and veteran Hollywood actor Michael Douglas was tapped to play the role of Dr. Hank Pym, the creator of the Ant-Man suit and the technology that allows the hero to shrink in size and communicate with ants.
Unfortunately for Edgar Wright and his fans, the director decided to part ways with Marvel Studios and leave the project due to “creative differences”. Director Peyton Reed stepped up to become Wright’s replacement, with Adam McKay also tapped to contribute to the film’s revised script. Rudd and Douglas remained as the leads of the film, along with The Hobbit films actress Evangeline Lily playing the part of Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Corey Stoll was also cast as Darren Cross, who steals Pym’s company and technology and assumes the identity of Yellowjacket.
Ant-Man will be released in theaters on July 17, 2015. — TJD, GMA News
