The original designer of the futuristic, self-lacing sneakers from "Back to the Future 2" has confirmed that a fully functional version of the product will be released to the general public this year.

Designer Tinker Hatfield had earlier said that the Nike MAG with fully functional Power Laces would be released in time for 2015—the year when actor Michael J. Fox's character, Marty McFly, sports the now-iconic shoes in "Back to the Future 2."

A limited collectors' edition of the Nike MAG without Power Lace functionality was released in 2011. Proceeds from sales of the expensive limited run—a pair cost almost $10,000—were donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. — GMA News
