Scrabble gets new high-tech handheld twist

Scrabble, the long-running and popular word game where players use tiles to form words, is getting another high-tech treatment, ranking somewhere between the classic physical tiles and the smartphone app.

Get ready for "Scrabble Twist," a handheld electronic handheld version of the game that does away with the iconic board.

"Just punch in the words, twist the end, and pass it on to the next person before your time runs out," Entertainment.ie reported.

It said the game can be played alone, by just two, or up to eight in a so-called "party mode."

A separate report on tech site Mashable said the new gadget from Hasbro sells for $19.99.

Mashable said the gadget auto-populates with five letters, similar to the physical version, for the user to form words. "You have either 15 seconds to make a word out of the letters, or 60 seconds when playing one on one."

But Mashable said the gadget will not allow two-letter words, and players are limited to building words of up to five letters only.

Yet, Mashable said such an incarnation of Scrabble should be handy for "a day at the park or on a road trip."  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
