WATCH: Spot the robot dog goes for a walk
This is how the robot uprising begins—with humans repeatedly kicking a robot in an attempt to knock it over. Somewhere down the line, future robot generations will look back at this as one example of how humanity abused their robotic ancestors.
Boston Dynamics has posted a new video on YouTube, introducing their newest creation, Spot the robot "dog." According to the video description, the four-legged robot was designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s powered by electricity and has a sensor on its head that helps it get around.
The robot, weighing 160 pounds, is hydraulically actuated for fine control.
According to technology blog ExtremeTech, Boston Dynamics has been pretty secretive since being acquired by Google in 2013. Aside from the YouTube video, there hasn’t been much fanfare about Spot. They also pointed out that Spot’s sensor is probably a LIDAR system, similar to the one used on Google’s self-driving cars. — Bea Montenegro/BM, GMA News
