VLC 3.0 media player to support Chromecast

VLC, already regarded as the Swiss knife of media players is about to get another tool: support for Google's popular Chromecast.

This Chromecast support for multiple devices was hinted in a change log by VideoLAN, the developer of the popular VLC media player software.

Pocket-Lint.com said this means users can now stream "just about any media file through VLC on the connected TV dongle."

Also, it said VLC earlier disclosed that it was looking to add support for its entire suite of apps.

In June 2014, it said it would bring the feature to iOS first, but the official iPhone and iPad app was removed from iTunes after iOS 8 was released.

But it added that while other video apps for iOS have Chromecast support, "considering VLC's reach this could be of great benefit to a lot of people." — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
