Google ending support for Chrome for Android ICS

Google is ending support for its Chrome browser for devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Software engineer Aurimas Lutikas said there had been 24 new Chrome releases and three new Android versions – Jellybean, KitKat and Lollipop – since ICS.

Besides, Lutikas noted a 30-percent drop in the number of Chrome users running ICS.

"Developing new features on older phones has become increasingly challenging, and supporting ICS takes time away from building new experiences on the devices owned by the vast majority of our users. So, with Chrome’s 42nd release, we’ll stop updating Chrome on ICS devices," Lutikas said.
This means ICS users can still use Chrome "but won’t get further updates."

A separate report on Android Police noted ICS came out in 2011, with Chrome debuting exclusively on ICS in early 2012.

"The current stable Chrome release is v40 and the beta channel is v41, so ICS users still have a little time before the updates dry up," it said.  — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
