‘Lazer Team’ drops first action-packed trailer

Lasers, explosions, and an unsurprising amount of genital jokes cropped up at the first trailer for Lazer Team, the first feature-length film by internet production company Rooster Teeth.

The trailer opens with the phrase "Based on a True Story", a cheeky nod to the Wow! signal received by the Search For Extraterrestrial intelligence project in 1977, the basis of the film's plot.

Decoded in secret, the signal warned the Earth that it was not alone and that the galaxy is a dangerous place. To prepare for these dangers, the US government trained Adam, the Champion of Earth (Alan Ritchson), capable of donning a suit made by Earth's new alien allies to combat other, evil aliens.

However, "four hapless idiots" accidentally intercept the suit, splitting it between Hagan (Burnie Burns), Herman (Colton Dunn), Woody (Gavin Free), and Zach (Michael Jones).

Lazer Team earned the distinction of becoming the highest-funded project on crowdfunding site IndieGogo in July 2014 when fans it raised $2,480,421, making 382 percent more than its initial goal of $650,000.

Rooster Teeth is a Texas-based, online entertainment company that produces machinima, live-action, and audio-based shows.

It first shot into fame with Red vs. Blue, a machinima series that used the videogame Halo to tell the story of bumbling Spartan soldiers tasked with thwarting the aftermath of a government project gone rogue.

One of its other animated series, "RWBY", will be localized in Japan through Warner Brothers Japan in 2015, making it the first American-made anime marketed in the east Asian country.  — TJD, GMA News
