Cultural educator unhappy with Tekken character 'Josie Rizal'
UPDATED 7:30PM 01APRIL2015 Some custodians of Philippine culture may not be quite happy with "Josie Rizal," the new Filipina character in the game "Tekken 7" named after national hero Jose Rizal.
A cultural educator in the Visayas is looking for ways to "correct" the image of the national hero, GMA Cebu reported Tuesday.
"Mahirap natin mapigilan ang ibang bansa na gumawa ng ganoong character kasi ang Pilipinas, sikat na sikat sa mundo," said Dr. Leodenito Cañete.
Cañete is a coordinator of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts' (NCCA's) Bayaning Bayan program in the Visayas. However, the NCCA Secretariat clarified to GMA News Online that he is not an NCCA official, as previously reported.
"He is just a coordinator of one of the NCCA's numerous projects," the secretariat said.

Cañete noted the Tekken character sports skimpy wear, with the costume bearing the colors of the Philippine flag.
He now plans to take steps to "correct" any wrong impression "Josie Rizal" may have given about Dr. Rizal and the Philippines, though he declined to elaborate how he plans to do this, the GMA Cebu report said.
The "Josie Rizal" character is the first Filipina in the "Tekken" series, and specializes in Filipino martial art eskrima and kickboxing, according to Bandai Namco Games' Katsuhiro Harada.
Harada also admitted he knew the character's name is a play on that of the Philippine national hero. —Joel Locsin/JST/TJD, GMA News
