With a new animated series, an annualized movie schedule and a streamlining of the continuity that includes novels and comics, the Star Wars franchise is experiencing a wonderful resurgence.
It should come as no surprise to anyone then that the characters from that far away galaxy of a long time ago will be joining the lucrative toys-to-life market with Disney Infinity. It's not official yet, but a German retailer has published listings for a Disney Infinity 3.0 starter set featuring Star Wars characters.
Launced in 2013, Disney Infinity is a multiplatform 'toys-to-life' game that mashes together characters from different pop culture universes. Players can collect a variety of stylized figurines such as Wreck-It Ralph, Jack Sparrow and The Incredibles as well as characters from their 'princess' films like Rapunzel and Jasmine. It's widely recognized that the Disney Infinity model takes its inspiration from Skylanders, and also inspired Nintendo's amiibo line of figures.
Videogame commentators such as WIRED's Chris Kohler anticipated a future filled with dozens of other brands interacting within Infinity ever since its announcement in 2013. A version 2.0 was released in 2014, which introduced Marvel superheroes such as The Avengers, Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy into the line. Designer Jeff Bunker told the Verge, "I think we have a style that accommodates anything that comes our way."
The listing for Disney Infinity 3.0's Star Wars characters has since been taken down, but not before vigilant fans took note of it. The 3.0 set shows figures based on both Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, the star of the 'Clone Wars' animated series that concluded on Netflix last year. The box also features artwork of Infinity-style versions of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Yoda and Darth Vader. The website listed August 15 as a release date for Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360. — TJD, GMA News
