“War… War never changes.”
And those words ring true once more as Bethesda Softworks answered the prayers of many Fallout fans and hopefuls looking forward to news on the next installment in the series. After initiating a 24-hour countdown timer in their website, the curtain is pulled and it’s official – Fallout 4 is real and has been confirmed with a stunning cinematic trailer that must be viewed to be appreciated.
As seen in landmarks and locations featured in the trailer, as well as verifying a report form Kotaku in December 2013, Fallout 4 will take place and be set in Boston. The trailer reveals that a new iteration of Dogmeat will once again be the player’s travelling companion, who will either be found sometime during the events of the game or start off with them from the beginning of the game. Several familiar elements and staples in the franchise were also featured in the trailer, but the biggest surprise at the end of the cinematic tease was the main character speaking, suggesting that he may actually have dialogue and possibly a set personality unlike previous installments in the series.
As the fourth official main installment confirmed for the long-running post-apocalyptic role-playing game franchise, Fallout 4 will take players into the ravages of a post-war America filled wasteland brimming with all kinds of life and dangers. The player will take control of a Vault dweller who emerges from their home, bound by a quest or mission to explore the wasteland and interact with its inhabitants. Because of the fallout and devastation of nuclear war many years ago, the world is a sandbox full of radiation, mutated creatures, various religions, and cults. It is the player’s mission to explore these regions, and find out where their destiny ultimately leads them.

Besides releasing the trailer on Bethesda's official website, no additional details on Fallout 4 have been given yet aside from the platforms it will be released on and promotional artwork from the game. Bethesda will most likely reveal more information during their E3 Press Conference this year, which will happen on June 14. No release date has been announced, but speculation has it that the game may come out by the end of this year if not sometime next year.
