The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will begin publishing official speed measurements of internet service providers (ISPs), giving consumers the ability to compare the official speeds with the ISP's advertised speeds, a television report said Monday.

A report on GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho sadi that according to NTC circular (NTC MC 07-08-2015), ISPs that have a minimum speed of less than 256 kbps cannot advertise themselves as “broadband” providers.

Broadband providers are required have speeds over 256 kbps at least 24 days in a month, otherwise the provider will be sanctioned.

Smart Communications Inc., the only telecommunications company to react to the circular as of posting time, said the memoranda provided “a good basis for moving forward.” — DVM, GMA News
