Software developer Julius Sweetland has developed a Windows on-screen keyboard called OptiKey that works with eye-tracking devices to help users type out words or click options with a virtual mouse. It aims to help people suffering from motor and speech problems, like those diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

Sweetland spent 3.5 years working on OptiKey and is offering the program completely for free.

“OptiKey was written to challenge the outrageously expensive, unreliable, and difficult-to-use AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) products on the market,” according to OptiKey’s GitHub page. “It is, therefore, fully open-source and free. Forever.” — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
