Award-winning Pinoy game ‘Monster Roller’ launching this January

Boomzap Entertainment is on a roll, with two of its titles—“Super Awesome RPG” and “Monster Roller”—launching globally this January.

Both games were finalists at the ESGS Indie Arena 2015, but it was “Monster Roller” that took home the Game of the Year award. “Monster Roller” also won Best Art at the GDAP Awards.

In “Monster Roller,” you explore various worlds that have been overrun by wild monsters. Your job is to tame and capture these creatures, raise them, and use them to fight other monsters. There are over 20 monsters, and each of them can evolve to a more powerful adult form. Monster types range from focused attackers to healers, and each comes with a unique mix of primary and secondary skills.

“Monster Roller”’s most fascinating feature is its combat system, which employs a slot machine-like mechanic. As soon as the battle begins, you’re prompted to spin three slots. These slots represent the abilities available to your monsters. Tapping the slots stops all three from spinning, thereby selecting the moves the monsters will perform.

If you’re lucky, you’ll land a chain of abilities of the same type. This provides you with all sorts of bonuses, and allows your monsters to perform devastating combos. Of course, your enemies also employ the same mechanics against you. Victory is therefore as dependent on strategy as it is on chance; there are countless monster and skill combinations to experiment with, some of which will prove more useful than others against specific enemy types and configurations.

Aside from solo play, you can battle other players in online PvP. To cultivate a competitive atmosphere, “Monster Roller” comes with various leaderboards.

Last but not least, “Monster Roller” can be played in Taglish.

“Monster Roller” will be released worldwide on January 27, 2016 for iOS and Android devices. It is free, but contains in-app purchases. For more information, you can visit the “Monster Roller” Facebook page.  — TJD, GMA News
