Atlas robot gets knocked down, but it gets up again

This is how the robot uprising starts: when they start realizing that nothing's ever going to keep them down.

Boston Dynamics, a company famous for its eerie automatons, on Tuesday unveiled the latest version of its Atlas autonomous android.

In a YouTube video, the company demonstrated the robot's capability to lift heavy objects as well as its uncanny ability to recover from a fall on its own.

As the robot tries to go about its work, a researcher is shown constantly pushing it down and keeping it from its assigned tasks:

Atlas' ability to quickly recover from spills is due to advances in its software and hardware, with computer algorithms that enable it to quickly respond to sudden situations and durable materials that allow for agile movements.

Boston Dynamics founder and president, Marc Raibert, told IEEE Spectrum that Atlas is able to function on its own with minimal input from its operators.

"Our long-term goal is to make robots that have mobility, dexterity, perception and intelligence comparable to humans and animals, or perhaps exceeding them; this robot is a step along the way," he was quoted as saying.

Hopefully, he also has an answer for these robots when they realize they've finally had enough of us humans' shiz. — GMA News
