Apple announced on Friday the discontinuation of its Thunderbolt Display, ending the company’s first-party monitor product.

The Thunderbolt Display is a 27-inch flat panel computer monitor which was first introduced in 2011 whose hardware has remained unupdated since then.

"We're discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display," an Apple spokesperson unequivocally told The Verge.

The remaining supplies will still be available in Apple stores. As of now, the company has yet to give word of a replacement in the near future.

"(Remaining stocks) will be available through Apple.com, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users."

Early this year, it was speculated that an update to Thunderbolt Display was rumoured to be relaunched with a 4k or 5k version and its own graphics card. — Kiersnerr Gerwin Tacadena/TJD, GMA News
