Artist Rodel Gonzalez returns to Manila in time for the launch of Star Wars movie "Rogue One" to once again showcase his art inspired by the science fantasy franchise.

Gonzalez, also known for his time as the vocalist of Side A, is the only Asian artist authorized to create interpretative art for Disney and Star Wars.

In an interview with GMA News' Unang Balita on Friday, Gonzalez revealed that he got his lucky break in 2002 while doing a gig in Hawai'i. A CEO from Disney was in the audience and Gonzalez was offered a chance to do art for the company.

"Tapos n'ong binili ng Disney ang Star Wars, o Lucas Films, two years ago, na-offeran naman ako na gumawa ng lisensiya for Star Wars," he said.

Gonzalez's work has been exhibited in galleries around the US and in Disney Japan. Perhaps the biggest validation for his art is the fact that Star Wars creator George Lucas himself has purchased a few pieces.

In a previous interview with GMA News Online, Gonzalez revealed that despite wanting the good side to win, he finds that painting the dark side of the force is more interesting. — TJD, GMA News
