Godzilla animated series coming to Netflix this year
Looks like western audiences who love Godzilla and have subscribed to Netflix are in luck, as Anime News Network reports that the upcoming animated series by Polygon Pictures that will debut in Japan will officially be available to online streaming service later this year.
The Japanese division of Netflix will partner with TOHO the media company that owns the rights to Godzilla—famous monster that first appeared in the 1954 film of the same name.

Directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, the hew animated Godzilla film will be a unique entry to the series and is different from the 2016 live action revival film “Shin Gojira/ Godzilla Resurgence” directed by Evangelion directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, which brought the “King of the Monsters” back after a decade of hibernation.
Psycho-Pass and Fate/Zero writer Gen Urobuchi will helm the screenplay, with the movie being the first animated film feature for Godzilla by Toho, since all of his appearances under the company have been in live-action bringing the monster to life through use of a suit, stop-motion techniques, and CGI through the course of his history in film.
No updates have been given on the story for “Godzilla” other than the concept art featuring a team of explorers in space suits seemingly navigating uncharted territory. Fans speculate this to be signs of “Monster Island”—the home of giant monsters such as Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra reside in, but it could be something else or a new location that is entirely original to the plot of the animated film.
A stage event is expected to happen at “AnimeJapan 2017”, with voice actors Yuuki Kaji, Takahiro Sakurai, and Junichi Suwabe appearing to promote the film. — TJD, GMA News
