Transport network service Grab Philippines has experienced system failure as the smartphone app is inaccessible to both drivers and commuters on Tuesday evening.

Commuters are unable to book rides with the malfunction of the smartphone app since around 8 p.m. until the time of this post.

In some instances, the app does not display the cost of the trip while drivers are unable to receive notification of bookings.

GMA News' Mav Gonzales posted the initial statement from Grab Philippines that the TNVS company is working on the problem and drivers will be receiving incentives.

"The whole system is down. But the engineers are working on it. We will release adjusted incentives for drivers affected."

A similar problem was posted on Singapore's The Strait times and Malaysia's The Star.

It was reported late last month that Grab and Uber operations will be merged in Southeast Asia and the deal is currently under motu propio review by the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC).

The service was back online around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. — BAP, GMA News
