5 things to check out before upgrading your smartphone

With all new kinds of smartphones flooding the market, choosing your next device can be a little overwhelming. Make sure you get the most out of your money by reading through these must-check phone specs:

Choose the perfect screen size for your needs
Choosing the best screen depends on how you use your phone. Do you like taking photos or videos with it? Is streaming videos online your thing? If so, then choose a screen size not smaller than 5.5 to 6 inches to avoid eyestrain when watching videos. Having a bigger screen helps a lot when taking photos and editing them on your phone. A bigger screen size is also great even for simply browsing your favorite websites.

Check out how good the screen display is
Other than the screen size of the phone, you have to check the quality of the screen display. Go for a screen display not lower than 1920 x 1080 full high definition (FHD) resolution to really bring out the display. OLED, or organic light emitting diodes, are among the latest technology developed for smartphones which makes the screen brighter, thinner, and overall more efficient.

Pick a camera that matches your interests
Are you a photography enthusiast who loves taking pictures with phones? Then you might want to look for a phone with a higher megapixel count. A megapixel (MP) simply means a million pixels. A higher MP gives you higher accuracy and resolution in your photos. More than the megapixels, check out the phone’s aperture. Having an f/1.6 aperture can help you take good photos even under low light conditions.

Don't settle for battery life that won't last a day
It won't matter if your new phone has all the latest technology packed in its hardware if the battery life performs dismally low. Nowadays, great phones must come with superb battery life, one that has quick-charge technology and lasts for more than a day. This way, you never have to miss capturing important moments of your life because of a drained battery.

Look for storage that fits your lifestyle
If apps are an important part of your phone life, then your newest device must pack at least 64gb or more of storage. Plus, media like photos and videos take up much space on devices and you don't want to miss out on any important moments simply because your phone is out of storage space.

Choosing your next device upgrade is really a matter of matching it to your lifestyle. After all, phones are now a huge part of one’s day-to-day activities. Take Ms. Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach on her long-standing favorite mobile phone, the Huawei P series. Her latest model, the P30, is just as colorful as her pageantry journey the past few years.

The Huawei P30 has a 6.1 FHD with a 2340x1080 OLED, giving its users an astounding 16.7 million colors DCI-P3 wide color gamut on display. The DCI-P3 wide color gamut video color is also used in films and it makes colors appear more vibrant.

“Every year, Huawei just keeps innovating,” Pia says. “Just when you thought you already have the most powerful phone in your hand, Huawei surprises you with something better.”

This is evident in Pia’s stunning social media photos, which she says are mostly taken with her Huawei P30. Pia also enjoys the wireless battery-charging feature. It’s convenient: simply press the smartphone to another Huawei phone capable of wireless charging and you don’t have to worry about running out of battery life again.

“This is the best camera phone certificated by the DxOMark and we believe this will be the product to rewrite the rules of photography and smartphones,” says Mr. George Li, Country Head of Huawei Consumer Business Group, in an interview during the Huawei P30 launch last April 13 at SM Megamall. DxOMark provides image quality ratings for standalone cameras, lenses, and smartphones. Huawei’s flagship P30 series scored a 112 mark, making it the number one among its competitors. Watch the video below to see what exciting features the P30 series have to offer:

“Huawei P30 series is for the people who take pride in their creativity, want a powerful smartphone that allows them to take amazing photographs even if they don’t really know how to.” Mr. Peter Gauden, from Huawei's Global Product Marketing Consumer Business Group, also shares. Huawei has co-engineered their impressive smartphone lenses with Leica, one of the well-known makers of camera lenses.

Huawei has taken mobile photography to a whole new playing field with its innovations, giving the P30 series as high as 40 MP with extraordinary telephoto and night photography even in low-light conditions. It is capable of taking clear, crisp images of landscapes and macro shots, with its wide-angle zoom, camera sensors, 2 cm super macro mode, and an impressive 50x zoom. But can the Huawei P30 series replace traditional DSLR cameras? Photographer Paul Quiambao seems to think so.

“You don’t need to be a professional photographer to operate the camera of the Huawei P30 Pro,” Paul explains. “It’s very easy to use, so it allows you to focus more on capturing the image.” He adds, “This is the perfect camera phone for travelers, bloggers, and adventure enthusiasts. I can confidently say the Huawei P30 Pro is the best camera phone out there that you can buy right now.”

Huawei’s partnership with Globe Philippines brings an enticing offer for those who want to upgrade their smartphones.

“For the pre-order that we’re doing with the Huawei P30, customers will actually get a Huawei smartwatch,” reveals Ms. KD Dizon, Vice President for Postpaid Business at Globe Philippines. For Globe’s existing customers, upgrading to a P30 series will give them free content, such as Disney Life, Spotify, and Amazon Prime Video.
