Mobile app lets users report emergencies in Makati

The Makati City Government has a mobile app that lets users report emergencies in the city, according to a Tuesday report by Saleema Refran in GMA News' 24 Oras.

"Ang kagandahan po ng Makatizen app na ito, kumpara sa regular calls po na tine-take namin, mas mabilis po 'yung nagiging pagresponde namin sa mga tao," said Makati Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office OIC Liza Belle Ramos.

Residents, workers, and even visitors to the city can register on the app. They may report fires, floods, accidents, crime, medical emergencies, and natural disasters such as earthquakes.

"Halimbawa mag-collapse yung isang building, hawak mo lang din ang telepono mo, so mabilis na mabilis mo siyang mapipindot lang," Ramos said.

She said that the app will automatically indicate the location of the emergency in the operations center once it is reported.

The emergency dispatcher will then immediately call the person who reported.

Makatizen also allows its users to report accidents in other cities. However, the Makati Command Center can only contact the nearest local government unit.

The app is planning to include a push notification feature for class suspensions and other announcements in the city.

Makatizen is also the lone Filipino finalist for the Innovative Idea Award at the World Smart City Awards in Barcelona, Spain. The event will be held from November 19 to 21. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
