National Privacy Commission invites Facebook to discuss dummy accounts
The National Privacy Commission (NPC) said Saturday it has summoned social media giant Facebook to discuss the proliferation of fake and dummy accounts.
In a statement, Privacy Commissioner Raymund Libor said the NPC invited Facebook Philippines for a meeting on Tuesday, June 16, “to seek more information regarding the numerous reports of impostor Facebook accounts.”
The privacy body had earlier said Facebook was investigating the issue.
“The Commission is currently coordinating with other government agencies, while conducting a separate investigation of this matter,” Liboro said.
The NPC chief said the agency was focused on looking into the cause of the “privacy panic” triggered by the impostor accounts and instituting remedial measures to protect Filipino Facebook users.
“We shall continue to inform the public on the matter,” he said.
According to Facebook, "Accounts and Pages that impersonate other people go against our Community Standards and aren't allowed" on the platform.
To report an impostor account, search the name used on the fake profile or page, or ask friends to find it and click the three-dotted icon on the cover photo.
If reporting a profile, select Find Support or Report profile then follow the on-screen instructions for impersonation to file a report.
The same advice was released by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). — DVM, GMA News
