This app helps you find a community pantry near you

Are you looking for a community pantry? There's an app for that.

Volunteers have developed a community pantry finder that not only helps users locate community pantries, but also provides them important details like schedules, contact details and available supplies.

As of Sandra Aguinaldo's report for "Unang Balita" on Tuesday, the initiative by Saan Yan PH helps users find more than 800 community pantries across the country.

"We want to help donors find their way to not only large, well known community pantries, but the smaller, lesser-known pantries, as well," Andi Tabinas from Saan Yan PH said.

Aguinaldo tried using the app on the report and was successfully able to locate a community pantry.

However, several residents were still unaware of the app and only learned about local pantries through word of mouth.

Residents also shared how they still struggled to find pantries, especially since some were only open at a certain time and had limited supplies.

"At least the app can help them find their way to community pantries and avoid getting lost," JR Dizon from Saan Yan PH said.

"This is exactly why we coordinate with organizers first before putting the pantry on the map," he added. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
