Here are the prices of Apple’s new MacBook Pro laptops powered by new chips

On Monday, Apple proved its place in the tech race yet again as it launched two new MacBook Pro models, both powered by new in-house Apple Silicon chips.

According to Apple Philippines’ site, these two new laptops don’t come cheaply.

The new MacBook Pro laptop with a 14-inch display costs PHP116,990 to PHP146,990, while the 16-inch display costs PHP146,990 to PHP206,990, the price depending on the model's Core CPU, Core GPU and unified memory.

Apple shared that the new models eliminated the "Touch Bar" and restored several connectors such as the MagSafe power connector that disappeared in recent years.

Apple's two new high-powered chips, namely M1 Pro and M1 Max, are meant to have better performance than its previous M1 chips, but do so while using less power compared to rival chips from firms such as Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Prior to the new chips' introduction, Apple had relied on chips from Intel. The company said it had placed a first-generation in-house-designed M1 chip into some MacBooks as well as its Mac Mini and iMac desktop machines.

According to Apple's chip chief Johny Srouji, the M1 Max is "the most powerful chip we've ever built" as it uses up to 100 watts less power than other high-end laptop chips, which meant better battery life.

Although its Philippine site noted that delivery was currently unavailable, Apple said that the new laptop models would start shipping next week. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
