NTC orders telcos to prepare for internet surge during the holidays

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on Tuesday urged  telecommunications companies to speed up maintenance efforts as there is an expected rise in internet traffic during the holidays.

In a statement, NTC said it expects more virtual Christmas parties because of the Omicron coronavirus cases that were recently detected in the Philippines.

"During the period from 17 December 2021 to 07 January 2022, please observe a heightened level of emergency preparedness to ensure minimal disruption and downtime strictly complying with the prescribed service performance standards at all times," said NTC.

"You are hereby directed to fast track your maintenance efforts, increase internet/broadband capacities, and ensure that business continuity and disaster recovery protocols are in place and functioning, 24/7," it added. -- Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
