Over P1M worth of shoes stolen after delivery app hacked

More than P1 million worth of shoes were stolen after a delivery app was allegedly hacked and after further investigation led to the arrest of five men.

According to Bea Pinlac’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” the police said the seller booked a delivery truck to deliver 60 boxes of shoes from Manila to the buyer in Pasay.

The police added that the seller received cancellation details and a change in the drop-off location to Pasay even if the shipment was already being loaded onto the delivery truck.

The driver of the delivery truck cooperated with the police and pointed out the drop-off location since he found it to be suspicious.

Authorities recovered a few of the stolen shoes that cost about P200,000, as the others might have already been sold.

Among the men arrested is the alleged sibling of the hacker.

Authorities are still investigating how the alleged hacking occurred as they are also searching for the mastermind.

Some of the suspects denied the allegations, saying that they only helped carry the boxes, while others said they had nothing to do with the crime.

The suspects are facing charges of estafa in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Reminder

Authorities reminded the public to be cautious and check the details of the driver in the delivery app they are booking.
