Humanoid robots deal cards, grab groceries at CES
Humanoid robots are in the spotlight at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Meet Galbot's humanoid.
It's showing off its ability to work in retail stores, fetching items from shelves.
Galbot's head of overseas marketing, Yvonne Yuan, says it can operate fully autonomously in such environments.
"Basically customers place orders on an iPad, you receive the order and they'll go retrieve the product they received. And also they're working in warehouses, in factories, in pharmacies as well," Yuan said.
Other companies showcased robots that can dance.
While some look almost human.
But one robotics firm brought a touch of Las Vegas flair to the show.
Its robot can pick up a deck of cards and deal hands for a game of blackjack.
Sharpa Global vice president Alicia Veneziani said the demonstration highlights the robot's AI capabilities.
"Dealing cards is pretty difficult for a robot. You see that it needs to manipulate an object that is flexible and thin. It's quite difficult and he does it pretty well," Veneziani said.
"So, this highlights the dexterity of our hands. But not only that, it needs to think through what's happening in the game and make decisions so it also highlights your reasoning, your ability and the AI capabilities that we have to make robots interact with people and accomplish actions." — Reuters
