DICT: eGov app downtime not due to security issue; now back online

The Philippine government's flagship one-stop shop platform eGov PH app has returned to full operations following a temporary downtime due to a surge in user activity, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

In a statement on Friday, DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr. said the eGov app disruption "was not due to any security incident" but was triggered by an overwhelming number of simultaneous transactions on the platform, adding that the incident should not be a cause for concern.

He clarified that there was no hacking or data breach involved.

"Our servers were overwhelmed due to the surge in eGov usage, especially following the launch of new features," Almirol said.

He said the app now has around 40 million users, contributing to the spike in demand.

The eGov app was temporarily placed under system maintenance last April 13 to upgrade its servers and restore stability, according to the DICT official said.

The outage lasted several hours across two days, with immediate steps taken to address performance limitations, added Almirol.

The DICT official said the issue has already been resolved, with enhanced server capacity now in place to support growing demand.

"We have resolved the issue. We just need to expand our servers to ensure this will not happen again," he said.

Prior to the restoration, the DICT official said users reported being unable to access the eGov app, with login attempts, account creation, and basic functions repeatedly failing during the outage.

The eGovPH app serves as a centralized digital gateway for public services, integrating transactions from multiple agencies into a single platform.

It includes features such as digital travel declarations, access to multiple digital IDs; national and local government services; document signing; and AI-assisted support.

The platform has reached 40 million downloads as of 2026 and has integrated with thousands of government systems and services. — VDV, GMA News
