TIP pushes for future-ready education through innovation, industry-relevant learning
The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) is strengthening its position as a future-ready institution by advancing a quality education agenda centered on innovation, applied learning, industry relevance, and graduate competitiveness.
“Innovation, for us, is not simply about adopting what is new,” said TIP president Angelo Lahoz. “It is about making education more relevant, more responsive, and more purposeful for the world our students are entering. That is what we mean when we say we are reengineering what’s next.”
The need for future-ready education has become increasingly urgent as AI continues to transform industries and reshape the global workforce. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, job disruption is expected to affect 22 percent of jobs by 2030, with 170 million new jobs projected to emerge while 92 million existing positions may be displaced.
Similarly, the International Monetary Fund reported that AI could affect nearly 40 percent of jobs worldwide, underscoring the importance of preparing graduates who can continuously learn, adapt, and exercise sound judgment in rapidly changing environments.

To address these developments, TIP has adopted a learning approach that emphasizes applied learning, collaboration, problem-solving, technical competence, and lifelong learning. The institution believes that while technology will continue to play a central role in society, human qualities such as creativity, ethics, judgment, and responsibility remain essential.
“The future will not reward students who only know how to follow instructions,” Lahoz said. “It will require graduates who can think clearly, solve responsibly, adapt continuously, and use technology without losing their human judgment.”
TIP’s strategic roadmap also highlights a 92.5 percent employment rate among graduates, along with employer preference recognition and competitive entry-level compensation benchmarks. According to the institution, these indicators reflect the effectiveness of its educational programs in preparing students for professional success.
“Employability is not the end goal of education, but it is an important result of good formation,” Lahoz said. “When our graduates enter the talent market with confidence, discipline, and the ability to contribute, it tells us that their education has prepared them not only for work but also for responsibility.”
TIP's efforts have not gone unrecognized. TIP improved its standing in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), moving from 149th place in 2024 to 128th in 2025 and reaching 93rd in 2026.
In the 2026 EduRank rankings, TIP placed 32nd among universities in the Philippines and 12th among universities in Manila. — VBL, GMA News
