LPA now Tropical Depression Leon; Signal No. 1 over Calamian islands


The low pressure area north-northwest of Coron in Palawan has developed into a tropical depression now known as Leon.

The center of Leon was estimated at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night to be 185 km west northwest of Coron.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is moving westward at 25 kph.

Signal No. 1 was raised over the Calamian Islands.

The LPA developed into Tropical Depression Leon at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.

It is expected to reach tropical storm category within 18 hours and severe tropical storm category within 48 hours.

PAGASA said the combined effects of Leon and the Southwest Monsoon will bring gusty conditions over Palawan (including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands) and Mindoro Provinces.

Tonight through tomorrow, moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Palawan (including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands) and Occidental Mindoro. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Visayas, Bicol Region, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, the rest of MIMAROPA, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Metro Manila, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. -NB, GMA News
