2 LPAs, Habagat to bring rains over Luzon, Visayas, parts of Mindanao


Two low pressure areas (LPA) and the Southwest Monsson (Habagat) will cause rains over many parts of the country on Sunday, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and BARMM will have cloudy skies, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides during times of moderate or heavy rains.

The rest of Mindanao meanwhile will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the monsoon and localized thunderstorms. Residents were warned of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

At 3 a.m., one LPA was located in the vicinity of Conner, Apayao, while the other one was estimated to be at 840 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The monsoon meanwhile is affecting Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA is also monitoring Severe Tropical Storm Chan-Hom located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

At 3 a.m., Chan-Hom's center was located 2,185 km northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. 

Coastal waters will be rough in Extreme Northern Luzon with waves reaching as tall as 4.5 meters.

The seas will be moderate to rough in Visayas and the rest of Luzon, with wave heights reaching up to 2.8 meters.

Meanwhile, in Mindanao, coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
