Pepito to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains over parts of Luzon, western Visayas


Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorm brought about by the Trough of Severe Tropical Storm Pepito on Thursday, according to the early morning forecast issued by PAGASA.

The weather bureau warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to scattered light to moderate rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorm with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

As of 3 a.m., the center of Severe Tropical Storm Pepito (International name: Saudel) was estimated at 380 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph and moving west northwestward at a speed of 10 kph.

The wind speed forecast for Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and the western section of Southern Luzon is Moderate to Strong and moving in the Southwest to Southeast direction while coastal waters will be Moderate to Rough.

The wind speed forecast for rest of the country is light to moderate moving in the Southwest to South direction while coastal waters will be Slight to Moderate.

The bureau is also monitoring an active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), a tropical depression was located 1,870 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness up to 55 kph moving east northeastward slowly.
