Dante makes second landfall over Masbate; Metro Manila, 29 other areas under Signal No. 1


The Tropical Storm Dante makes another landfall over Cataingan, Masbate, according to the Severe Weather Bulletin posted by PAGASA.

The center of Tropical Storm Dante was estimated based on all available data including those from Mactan and Iloilo Doppler Weather Radars over the western coastal waters of Balud, Masbate with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness up to 90 kphn, and central pressure of 1000 hPa and moving in the west northwestward direction at 25 kph.

Gale-force winds, the weather bureau added, extend outward up to 50 km from the center.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, northern Negros Oriental, northern and central Cebu including Bantayan Islands.

Moderate to heavy rains over CALABARZON, Occidental Mindoro, Masbate, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, and the rest of Negros Oriental and Cebu.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are also likely over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Pangasinan, Benguet, and the rest of MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Visayas.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is hoisted over the following areas:

Sea travel is risky for inexperienced mariners as there will be rough to very rough seas over the seaboards of areas where TCWS No. 2 is in effect and the remaining seaboards of Bicol Region. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts over these waters.

Moderate to rough seas over the seaboard of areas where TCWS No. 1 is in effect (apart from Catanduanes), the seaboards of Calamian and Cuyo Islands, the remaining seaboards of Visayas, the seaboards of Caraga, the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental, and the northern seaboard of Northern Mindanao.

Dante will continue moving west northwestward and pass near or in the vicinity of Romblon and Marinduque in the next 12 hours before turning northwestward to north northwestward towards the southern Quezon-Batangas area, where it will make another landfall this afternoon or evening.

The Tropical Storm is forecast to maintain its strength until it makes landfall over mainland Luzon and weaken into a tropical depression Wednesday afternoon or evening. -- BAP, GMA News
