Habagat to bring monsoon rains over Ilocos, 7 other areas


The southwest monsoon will be affecting the country, bringing cloudy skies and rains over many parts of Luzon, PAGASA reported in its early morning forecast.

The Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan will have monsoon rains brought about by the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides during scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley will have occasional rains also due to the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Luzon and Visayas will have moderate to strong wind speed moving southwestward while coastal waters will be moderate to strong.

Mindanao will have light to moderate wind speed moving southwestward while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.

The weather bureau is also monitoring tropical cyclones outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

One tropical depression is located 3,245 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 70 kph and moving in the north northwest direction at a speed of 25 kph.

The second tropical depression is located 920 kilometers west of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 55 kph and moving eastward at a speed of 15 kph.
