Typhoon Basyang intensifies, moves out of PAR


Typhoon Basyang has intensified but is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

According to PAGASA's severe weather bulletin at 5 p.m. on Basyang, the typhoon was already 1,400 kilometers east of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. 

PAGASA said Basyang is slowly moving north northwestward with strong winds or higher extend outwards up to 600 km from the center.

It added that Basyang is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country within the forecast period.

Basyang left the PAR at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The typhoon is forecast to move generally north northeastward throughout the forecast period.

This tropical cyclone is forecast to continue to intensify and may reach a peak intensity of 155 kph on Wednesday afternoon.

“The typhoon is unlikely to directly affect the sea conditions over the coastal waters of the country within the forecast period,” the weather bureau said.

“However, swells resulting from this tropical cyclone is forecast to generate moderate to rough seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao,” it added.

Unless re-entry occurs, PAGASA noted that this is the last bulletin for Basyang. It said that succeeding updates will be incorporated in the 24-hour public weather forecast at 4 a.m. Wednesday. —NB, GMA News
