Habagat to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains over Central, Southern Luzon

A low pressure area (LPA) located east of Central Luzon is enhancing the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) on Wednesday, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

At 3 a.m. on Wednesday, the LPA was estimated to be located at 1,015 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

"Sa ngayon, maliit ang tsansa nitong maging bagyo," PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Balita.

(At present, the LPA has a small chance of developing into a tropical depression.)

"Bagamat wala pa itong directong epekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa, partly naiimpluwensiyahan nito ang Habagat o Southwest Monsoon na siyang nagdadala ng pag-ulan sa nakararaming bahagi ng Gitna at Katimugang Luzon at ng Metro Manila nitong mga nagdaang mga araw," he added.

(While the LPA has no direct effect on any part of the country, it partly influences the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that has been bringing rains over most parts of Central and Southern Luzon and Metro Manila these past few days.)

Perez said the monsoon will continue to affect Central and Southern Luzon on Wednesday.

Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Northern Palawan including Cuyo Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.

The wind speed forecast for extreme Northern Luzon is moderate to strong moving in the north to northeast direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Northern Luzon will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the northeast to northwest direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

As for the rest of the country, these areas will have light to moderate wind speed moving in the south to southwest direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
