Typhoon Jenny maintains strength, Signal No.3 raised over Itbayat, Batanes

Typhoon Jenny maintains its strength while moving over the waters east northeast of Batanes as Storm Signal No. 3 is raised over Itbayat, PAGASA reported.

According to PAGASA’s 11:00 p.m. cyclone bulletin on Tuesday, Jenny was last seen 305 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour and gustiness of over 190 kph while moving north northwestward at 10 kph.

Itbayat, Batanes has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 and will be experiencing winds of greater than 89 kph up to 117 kph in at least 18 hours.

Heavy damage to high-risk structures and possible widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services may occur, the weather bureau reported.

TCWS Signal No. 2 is raised over the rest of Batanes and may experience winds of greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph in at least 24 hours.

Light to moderate damage might occur to high-risk structures and exposed communities.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 1 has also been raised among the following areas:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • The northern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Divilacan)
  • Apayao
  • The northeastern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong)
  • The northern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan)
  • Ilocos Norte

Winds of 39 kph up to 61 kph and intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours.

Forecast accumulated rainfall from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening in Batanes with 100-200 mm and Babuyan Islands, 50-100 mm.

Severe winds

Jenny will also continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon, which will bring occasional rains over the western portions of Luzon in the next 3 days and gusty conditions over the following areas without any Wind Signal.

Tuesday and Wednesday: The southern portion of Aurora, Bataan, Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, Kalayaan Islands, Romblon, most of CALABARZON, and portions of Bicol Region.

Thursday: The southern portion of Aurora, Romblon, and portions of CALABARZON and Bicol Region.

The typhoon is predicted to bring moderate to rough seas over the coastal waters of northern Aurora in the next 24 hours while a gale warning has been placed in effect for coastal waters along the seaboards of Northern Luzon.

Jenny is forecast to gradually weaken over the course of the forecast and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
