PAGASA: Heat index in 44 areas to reach 'danger' level on April 27


State weather bureau PAGASA warned on Friday afternoon that the heat index in 44 areas could rise to a ''danger'' level on Saturday.

Heat indexes between 42°C and 48°C may be experienced in the following areas:

The lowest heat index may occur in Baguio City at 28°C.

PAGASA defines heat index as the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in humidity and air temperature.

In areas with a danger level heat index, which is from 42°C to 51°C, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, according to PAGASA. Heat stroke is also possible with continued exposure.

PAGASA recommends limited outdoor activity, consistent hydration, and wearing fresh clothes to combat the effects of intense heat. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
