PAGASA warns of heavy rains from LPA, Southwest Monsoon


PAGASA warned on Monday that a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) are expected to bring heavy rains to several parts of Luzon and Visayas in the coming days.

As of 8:00 a.m. on August 25, the LPA — tagged as LPA 08f — remains inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA said it has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours but will continue to enhance rains over parts of the country.

Rainfall outlook

Rainfall amounting to 50–100 mm due to the LPA is forecast to pour over the following areas:

- Today until tomorrow noon (Aug. 26): Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.

- Tomorrow noon to Tuesday noon (Aug. 27): Aurora, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.

- Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon (Aug. 28): Aurora, Rizal, and Quezon.

 

Meanwhile, rainfall forecast due to the Southwest Monsoon is as follows:

- Tomorrow noon to Tuesday noon (Aug. 27): Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental.

- Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon (Aug. 28): Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental.


PAGASA warned that rainfall could be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, while flooding and landslides may be worsened in provinces that already experienced significant rainfall in recent days. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA Integrated News
