PAGASA: Up to 4 cyclones expected in PAR in September

Two to four tropical cyclones are expected to develop or enter the Philippine area of responsibility in September, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Monday.

“Ngayong buwan ng September ay posible ang dalawa hanggang sa apat na bagyo ang pumasok o mabuo sa ating PAR, base rin sa ating climate outlook noong nakaraang linggo,” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview.

(This month of September, two to four typhoons may enter or form in our PAR, also based on our climate outlook last week.)

In its public weather forecast, PAGASA said these possible tropical cyclones may make landfall over Extreme Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon.

“Yung pangatlo naman na ating track ay isang landfalling track. Posibleng 'yung movement nito generally northwestward pa rin, pero posible itong maglandfall over Extreme Northern Luzon area towards the area of Hong Kong or mainland China,” PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said.

(The third track is a landfalling track. It is possible that the movement is still generally northwestward, but it is possible that it will make landfall over the Extreme Northern Luzon area towards the area of Hong Kong or mainland China.)

“At sa pang-apat naman na ating track, landfalling track rin ito. Possible landfall over the southern portion of Luzon patungo sa area naman ng Vietnam,” he added.

(And the fourth track is also a landfalling track. Possible landfall over the southern portion of Luzon towards the area of Vietnam.)

Currently, PAGASA is montoring a low pressure area (LPA) last spotted 580 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

The LPA has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
