Signal No. 3 raised in parts of Northern Samar due to Opong

Signal No. 3 has been raised in parts of Northern Samar as Opong maintained its strength, according to the 2 p.m. bulletin of PAGASA.

The following wind signal warnings have been raised by PAGASA in its latest advisory:

Signal No. 3 

  • The northern and eastern portions of Northern Samar ( Gamay, Lapinig, Mapanas, Palapag, Laoang, San Roque, Pambujan, Catubig) and the northern portion of Eastern Samar ( San Policarpo, Arteche, Jipapad, Oras)

Opong was last spotted 300 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.0°N, 128.5°E) packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center with gustiness of up to 135 km/h and a central pressure of 980 hPa.

It will continue moving generally west northwestward while approaching Eastern Visayas – Southern Luzon area. PAGASA said Opong make landfall over Northern Samar tomorrow morning, then Bicol Region by tomorrow morning or early afternoon.

The highest Wind Signal that may be hoisted throughout the passage of Opong is Wind Signal No. 4, according to PAGASA.

PAGASA said Opong is also enhancing the Southwest Monsoon and will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas not under Wind Signal:

• Today: Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Caraga Region, and Davao Region.

• Tomorrow (September 26): Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Caraga Region, and Davao Region.

• Saturday (September 27): Luzon and Western Visayas.

Opong is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
