LPA outside PAR now a tropical cyclone
The low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has developed into a tropical depression, PAGASA said early Saturday morning.
As of 4 a.m., the tropical cyclone was located 1,430 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.
It was moving westward at 15 km/h.
Once it enters the PAR on Sunday, it will be given the local name Tino.
By Sunday morning or afternoon, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 will be raised over Caraga and Eastern Visayas.
"Inside PAR, Tino will turn westward while over the Philippine Sea. On the forecast track, the center of Tino may make landfall in Caraga or Eastern Visayas by Tuesday morning. It is expected to cross Visayas and Palawan between Tuesday and Wednesday. Afterwards, it will emerge over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday morning or afternoon," PAGASA said.
"Tino will continue to intensify while over the Philippine Sea and may reach typhoon category by Tuesday. Further intensification prior to its landfall is not ruled out. Based on the intensity forecast, the highest wind signal that will be hoisted is Wind Signal No. 4."
Meanwhile, the LPA inside the PAR (260 km west of Coron, Palawan) is not expected to become a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.
This LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, PAGASA said in its 24-hour weather forecast.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Cagayan due to the shear line, while Batanes will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).
Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol Region, and the rest of MIMAROPA will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have localized thunderstorms.
Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon are expected to experience moderate to strong winds, along with moderate to rough coastal waters.
The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:52 a.m. Sunset is expected at 5:28 p.m. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
