PAGASA: Storm surge warning up in 4 Ilocos provinces as Uwan moves away
The coastal areas of 34 towns and cities in four provinces in the Ilocos Region are at moderate to high risk of storm surges as high as one to two meters in the next 12 hours, the state weather bureau said on Monday night.
In its 8 p.m. storm surge warning, PAGASA said there is a possibility of inundation from rising seawater along with high waves in the low-lying coastal communities of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
The storm surge warning covers the following coastal areas of:
Ilocos Norte:
- Badoc
- Currimao
- Laoag City, and
- Paoay.
Ilocos Sur:
- Cabugao
- Caoayan
- Candon
- City of Vigan
- Magsingal
- Narvacan
- San Esteban
- San Juan
- San Vicente
- Santa
- Santa Catalina
- Santa Cruz
- Santa Lucia
- Santa Maria
- Santiago
- Santo Domingo
- Sinait, and
- Tagudin.
La Union:
- Bacnotan
- Balaoan
- Bangar
- Bauang
- City of San Fernando
- Luna, and
- San Juan.
Pangasinan:
- Agno
- Anda
- Bani
- Bolinao, and
- City of Alaminos.
PAGASA warned residents in low-lying coastal areas to stay area from the coast or beach, cancel all marine activities, and move to higher ground away from the coast and storm surge-prone areas.
The state weather bureau issued the storm surge warning as Typhoon Uwan continued to move away from the Ilocos Region on Monday afternoon.
In its 5 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, PAGASA said 13 areas in Luzon are still under Signal No. 2.
As of 8 p.m., Uwan was spotted 235 kilometers west northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
