LTFRB: Student, senior citizen, PWD fare discounts honored during Undas exodus
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded bus operators to ensure that their drivers and conductors honor the 20-percent fare discount for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) ahead of the Undas exodus.
“We expect all the operators to give a gentle reminder to their drivers and conductors about the mandatory fare discount. Remember, damay kayo sa anumang reklamo at insidente ng paglabag sa regulasyong ito,” Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua, Jr. said in a press release on Sunday.
(We expect all operators to issue a gentle reminder to their drivers and conductors regarding the mandatory fare discount. Remember, you will also be held liable for any complaints or violations of this regulation.)
The LTFRB warned that violators face either the suspension or cancellation of their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC), alongside fines under laws mandating discounts for the three sectors.
Specifically, these mandates are anchored in Republic Act 9994 for senior citizens, RA 11314 for students, and RA 10754 for PWDs, according to the LTFRB.
The agency advised the public to report any non-compliance to the LTFRB Hotline 1342 or through its official social media channels.
“We will strengthen our monitoring system, both on the ground and on social media in order to ensure compliance of PUV operators,” Pua said.
Pua also reminded drivers and conductors to be courteous at all times, especially to passengers who need special assistance.
For this year’s Undas exodus, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) said it expects around 1.9 million passengers, while the Philippine Coast Guard estimates up to 2 million travelers at seaports nationwide. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/BM, GMA News
