EDSA Kamuning flyover southbound temporarily closed for 30-day repair

Authorities closed the southbound portion of the EDSA Kamuning flyover in Quezon City to motorists at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, for repair work that will last for 30 days.

Personnel of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City local government unit were at the area before 6 a.m. to ensure traffic would be managed well, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Dobol B TV.

Vehicles including EDSA carousel buses may use the southbound service road beside the flyover.

Motorists may also follow the alternate route or Mabuhay lanes identified by authorities.

The alternative route would have motorists turn right at Scout Borromeo Street to Scout Ybardolaza Street, going to Judge Jimenez Street, passing E. Rodriguez, and going to New York Avenue to EDSA.

Motorists may also use the Mabuhay lane route 1 as follows:

  • From EDSA, turn right at West Avenue
  • right at Quezon Avenue,
  • U-turn near Magbanua,
  • right at Timog,
  • right at T. Morato,
  • right at E. Rodriguez,
  • left at Gilmore,
  • straight to Granada,
  • right to Santolan Road or right at N. Domingo,
  • left at Pinaglabanan,
  • right at P. Guevarra,
  • left at L. Mencias,
  • right at Shaw Boulevard,
  • left at Acacia lane,
  • right at F. Ortigas,
  • left at P. Cruz,
  • left at F. Blumentritt,
  • left at Coronado,
  • take Mandaluyong-Makati Bridge to destination.

They may also take the following alternate route:

  • Turn right at Scout Borromeo,
  • left at Scout Ybardolaza/ Scout Torillo / Scout T. Morato / Scout Tuazon or Scout Tobias,
  • right at E. Rodriguez or follow the Mabuhay lane route 1 to destination.

Repair work on the flyover will be made by the Department of Public Works and Highways on a 30-meter stretch and will include the reconstruction of the damaged bridge diaphragm and the construction of a new bridge deck slab of the flyover, the MMDA earlier said.

Since heavy equipment could not be used on the flyover, the repair work will be done manually, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said.

Artes also said the 30-day repair schedule already includes the curing time for the cement to be poured on the affected portion.

Around 140,000 vehicles use the EDSA-Kamuning flyover every day, the MMDA chief said.
